#TeacherTuesday: Get to Know P.E. Teacher Paul Di Marco!

This week, learn more about Hillbrook P.E. Teacher Paul Di Marco. Fun fact: Paul is also known as Hillbrook’s unofficial historian and the author of As The Twig is Bent, the story of Hillbrook School.

What strikes you most about Hillbrook students?

The students at Hillbrook are enthusiastic about learning. Whether it is in an academic classroom or in an outdoor sport, students are genuinely curious and self-motivated to challenge themselves when learning a new skill.

When you think of Hillbrook students, what stands out the most?

The one thing that stands out with me about Hillbrook students is a feeling of family. As an alumnus of a K-8 parochial school, this feeling is familiar to me as your fellow students become your extended family. You truly grow up together.

What is your favorite unit to teach?

My favorite unit is actually a culmination of the entire school year practicing for our Hillbrook Fitness Challenge in which students work towards the coveted bronze, silver, and gold medals. This challenge is repeated every year from 1st through 8th grade with students being able to chart their progress from year to year.

What made you choose to come to Hillbrook?

I was drawn to the beauty of Hillbrook’s campus as a backdrop to my teaching. The crisp mornings of fall giving way to the natural sounds and sights of spring make this campus a jewel for learning.

I am looking forward to the completion of the History of Hillbrook unit being taught by Kevin Jacobsen in 8th grade. To witness students experiencing the past and how it relates to the present at Hillbrook is both fulfilling and rewarding to me as a novice historian.

What was the last book you read?

The last book I read was Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown. This is my third reading of this book. The beauty of the Native American philosophy, respect, and appreciation for life resonate deeply with me.

We hope you enjoyed learning more about Mr. Di Marco!
