This week, get to know Junior Kindergarten-4th Grade Music teacher Kristin Engineer.
What strikes you most about the students at Hillbrook?
The leadership that our students possess. They are higher-level thinkers, and I learn something from them every day.
What is your favorite unit or project and why?
The 3rd Grade Hillbrook Sound Project. It’s a deep-dive into learning about sound in science, music, and art. The children get to solve problems together in a small group and their ability to work together is incredible during and after the project.
What made you choose to teach at Hillbrook?
I loved how comprehensive the disciplines were from the viewpoint of the student experience. I was drawn by the fact that music was such an important part of the children’s education here at Hillbrook. What are you most looking forward to at Hillbrook in the next few months? The creation of the 1st-4th Grade Spring Concert in April. The children are cast in a short play with music and they stretch their skills and challenge themselves to perform on the big stage.
What is the last place you visited?
I traveled to Austria with Hillbrook science teacher Jenny Jones to teach a group of 4th grade students and their teachers a mini version of the Hillbrook Sound Project. It was an incredible experience that I’ll never forget.
We hope you enjoyed learning more about Ms. Engineer and are looking forward to the 3rd Grade Sound Project and the 1st-4th Grade Spring Concert – we sure are!
