What strikes you most about the students at Hillbrook?
The thing that strikes me most about the students at Hillbrook is they are not afraid to take a risk. They simply jump right into a situation not even worried about the outcome.
When you think about the students at Hillbrook, what’s the one thing that stands out to you?
Many students at Hillbrook seem to enjoy working in collaborative groups.
What made you choose to teach at Hillbrook?
The main reason I came to Hillbrook was a feeling I had immediately after pulling on campus for my interview. I remember sitting in the car, waiting to go inside, and I felt at home. The feeling during the day I spent on campus was extraordinary. I felt overwhelming warmth and support during my interview – when I should have been nervous – from the people I came in contact with that day including students, parents, and employees. The strong sense of community I felt is something that comes from a place where people put their words into action, and that is something that is incredibly important to me.
What are you most looking forward to at Hillbrook in the next few months?
I am looking forward to watching the first graders become readers, writers, inventors, and empathetic little beings.
What is the last place you visited?
The last place I visited was Sacramento. It is a place I often go to visit family; however, this occasion, I stood by and watched my cousin marry his long-time partner in one of the most beautiful ceremonies I have ever witnessed. The day was filled with warmth, love, and just plain fun!
Anything else we should know?
After years of being away from my childhood upbringing, it feels wonderful to be back home. Being able to have spontaneous dinners with my family, hug them, and spend quality time with them instead of talking on the phone or Facetiming is simply priceless!
