It’s time for another #TeacherTuesday! This week, get to know Laura Hale, Art teacher at Hillbrook:
What strikes you most about the students at Hillbrook?
Hillbrook reveres the facets and impacts of childhood and encourages students to be confident and carefree explorers who lean into the messiness of investigation and learning.
When you think about the students at Hillbrook, what’s the one thing that stands out to you?
Students are given the space to discover their authentic voices and are encouraged to express themselves in ways that draw upon that richness.
What is your favorite unit or project?
I love a diverse array of materials and every moment of creative leadership. The art studio hums with electric energy when the students meet my invitation with curiosity and trust the process of learning to express their unique perspectives through skill and artistic vision.
What made you choose to teach at Hillbrook?
The palpable quality of possibility. It lives in the spaces on campus and is found in the interactions of students, faculty and staff.
What are you most looking forward to at Hillbrook in the next few months?
There is so much joy in the doing of it all! I am looking forward to being a part of the process and all it brings. The opening of the Hub will definitely be a highlight.
What is the last place you visited or book that you read?
Well, contrary to my teaching persona, I’m a homebody who enjoys domestic quietude and staycations over worldly jaunts. A student gave me a copy of Michelle Obama’s recent biography Becoming—loved it. Her voice and history are compelling; I laughed and cried and laughed some more.
We hope you loved learning more about Ms. Hale. We love the vibrance, intelligence, and dedication to student experience that our teachers and staff keep at the center of their work!
